This afternoon, Sheldon School hosted the exciting Primary Hockey Festival, welcoming teams from across the town to take part in a fun filled day of skill building and friendly competition.
The event began with a fantastic round of matches, where teams demonstrated brilliantly worked goals and impressive teamwork. Children also rotated through a skills circuit, led by expert coaches from Chippenham Hockey Club, designed to develop their understanding of the game and encourage them to be brave in trying new techniques.
Lacock Primary played consistently well throughout the afternoon, showing great determination and teamwork in every match. Redland Primary, who entered three enthusiastic teams, worked incredibly hard during both the drills and match play. Frogwell Primary showed tremendous progress, especially in using the correct side of the stick and working to keep the ball away from their feet—a real highlight of the day!
As the games progressed, teams were matched with others of similar ability, leading to some fantastic and evenly contested fixtures. One of the standout moments was the exciting rivalry between the two Kings Lodge teams! Queens Crescent also impressed with their talented players and a wonderfully positive attitude, especially in supporting and encouraging their less confident teammates.
To finish the day, each team nominated a ‘Player of the Tournament’ who was awarded a special certificate and medal in recognition of their efforts.
A huge thank you to Sheldon School’s Sports Ambassadors and the brilliant Chippenham coaches for supporting the event. We’re already looking forward to seeing everyone next week for ‘Under the Sea’ at Hardenhuish!
