After a morning of torrential rain we were lucky that the astro at Stanley Park dried up and we were able to go ahead with the highly anticipated football tournament. This is aimed at year 5 and 6 pupils and we had both a mixed competition and a girls competition.
The 15 teams in the mixed event and 8 teams in the girls showed excellent effort and we were really impressed with the teamwork and competitive spirit shown in the games. The quality of passing and movement was great and when teams did find themselves down on the score they didn’t give up and kept pushing hard. The mixed team had 2 pools which resulted in a final between Derry Hill and Charter. The standard was strong and the ball was end to end with lots of chances and some outstanding saves! With a couple of minutes to go we started to discuss golden goal and penalty options when Derry Hill came storming through the Charter defence to score!
In the girls event there were some battles however Monkton Park came out victorious with Redland as runners up!
