Year 5 / 6 Football Tournament

What an afternoon of drama this event turned out to be! With 9 teams involved the tournament was organised into 2 pools, with the top 2 teams in each progressing to the semi-finals. The standard of football was very high with some excellent passing, tackling, and shooting. All the games were very exciting to watch and each of the schools demonstrated strong teamwork.

After the pools had finished Redland, Derry Hill, Monkton Park and Kings Lodge made it through to the semis. This resulted in 2 intense matches, with both sets of teams evenly matched. Monkton Park scored a superb goal against a strong Redland defence securing their place in the final. After Derry Hill and Kings Lodge were still drawing at the full-time whistle, the game entered 5 minutes extra time with golden goal. This still failed to split them so each team got ready for penalties. It was an emotional shoot out, which resulted in Kings Lodge going through to the final.

It was amazing that after the spectacle of the semi’s that the final turned out to be equally dramatic. With the ball going end to end, lots of exciting attacking plays down the line and some incredible saves the game once again came down to penalties. This shoot out saw Monkton Park triumph! Monkton Park Girls also qualified first in the girls only event, and automatically go through to the County Finals. Congratulations to everyone involved!
