We kicked off the new school year with an action-packed PLT meeting, full of exciting opportunities, inspiring updates, and plenty of passion to fuel the year ahead!
We began with the brilliant 2025 Chippenham Games video, a perfect reminder of the day and a celebration of community spirit and sport.
Next up, Neil Bromley introduced us to the world of fencing. Forget the usual football and netball! Fencing is proving to be a hidden gem for pupils who don’t always love traditional sports. Even better, Neil has spaces available in Terms 3 to 6.
Rachel then challenged us to rethink inclusion. With possible changes to primary school sports funding, she reminded us that now is the perfect time to upskill our teachers. Staff training is key, and Rachel is available for CPD, event support, and pupil sessions.
Fiona from the Game On Charity shared exciting updates. The charity is expanding into secondary schools and branching out into sports like basketball and dodgeball. Keep an eye out for posters, and let Jan and Selina know if you’d like them to visit your school.
Jess gave us a “year at a glance,” and here’s just a taste of what’s coming up:
🌈 Rainbow Run & Orienteering
🌟 Wellbeing Champion event
🏑 Quik Sticks Hockey (non-competitive – just have a go!)
🐠 Under the Sea festivals (two locations!)
⚽ Football Festival (boots required)
❄️ NEW Christmas Festival + Multi Skills @ Abbeyfield
Plus: Mini Mudder, New Age Kurling, Footie 4 Fun, and more!
Claire from Sports Directory shared some brilliant offers on sports equipment – definitely worth checking out for your next order.
In football news, Cup to Plate is back! Remember to arrange your inter-school matches ahead of finals day. And at Chippenham Football Club, Wildcats is going from strength to strength. Spaces are still available for Reception, Year 1, Year 4, and Year 6.
We also got the big reveal for this year’s much-anticipated dance festival theme: “In the Game.” It’s completely open to your interpretation.
After everyone signed up to receive communications from the Youth Sport Trust, Richard shared the many ways YST can support primary PE. Lauren from Wiltshire Council Community Sport and Wellbeing added some local context, sharing statistics and case studies, and reminding us about the Friday evening youth group run in collaboration with Doorway. And finally, Sarah from Real PE showcased the new assessment tools recently launched.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable morning and we can’t wait for our first event of the year, The Rainbow Run, next week!
See you all soon!
