Orienteering Festival with Year 1/2 – Building Skills Through Fun, Movement, and the Great Outdoors!

Year 1 and 2 students took part in an exciting Orienteering Festival, combining physical activity, teamwork, and outdoor exploration.

In small groups, guided by our dedicated Sports Ambassadors, the children searched the school field for hidden picture cards. Each card featured a movement on the back such as hopping, skipping, or tiptoeing—that they performed before moving to the next station. The children worked together to match the pictures on their worksheets, finishing with a lively animal matching game, where they raced to pair animals with their movements.

This event provided so much more than just fun. Activities like these are vital for developing key movement skills such as balance, coordination, and agility, all while encouraging active participation and teamwork. Additionally, spending time outdoors offered even greater benefits for the children. Being outside enhances well-being, helps reduce stress, and boosts creativity all essential for young learners. Fresh air and open spaces also make physical activity more enjoyable, fostering a lifelong love for movement and exploration.

thank you to our Sports Ambassadors for their leadership and to everyone who supported the day. Watching the children thrive, building confidence, staying active, and reaping the rewards of outdoor play!
