Crazy, Crunchy, Christmas Cross Country!

Nine local primary schools joined us for one of the most exciting events of the year – the Christmas Cross Country! Despite some worries about the rain, the weather was perfectly mild and great conditions for some festive running!

Watching everyone arrive with excited smiles and high energy was in Mrs Porter’s words “the best sight we have seen in 2 years!” Lots of pupils had worn their Christmas jumpers, decorated themselves with tinsel and adorned themselves in other jolly accessories – we loved all the sparkle!

The event started with a welcome visit from Father Christmas and we also had help from Rudolph and a whole host of Elves to lead some Christmas aerobics as a warm up. A highlight was then seeing over 400 pupils and teachers join in with the 12 Days of Christmas, where we all sang the song together doing a different festive action for each day!

As each school made their way excitedly to the start line and were sent on their way by Father Christmas, the field was filled with a happy line of runners making their way round the course, before finishing in the tinsel funnel.

After all of their efforts pupils then made their way to the refreshments where they were given hot chocolate and a biscuit – judging from their reactions this was a favourite part of the day for them!

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came and for all of their enthusiasm – what a perfect way to start our Christmas celebrations.
